Is there a magic box I can pop-up so I can just enter a value? A USB
hardware device perhaps? Numeric keypad shortcuts? Anything (short of a
$2000 radio stack simulator)? Sorry if this is common knowledge, I have
not found it.

Download SetupFSCop1rc1 from www.avsim.com or www.flightsim.com . It is an
in-Sim copilot for doing what you want and also pushbacks, gpws etc.

For about $230, you could get the beginner Module (RMP radio,
controller and case) from

I've been thinking about it myself. It handles OBS, COM, NAV, etc.
