Despite the lingering snow, the Governor's Cup for 2005 officially opened
for business on March 1. The last several days have produced some impressive thermal conditions with good ridge, so it's time to dust off the loggers and get going. The G-Cup is an inter-club competition for folks in southern New York, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania. With Turn Area Tasking of 110 - 220 miles, the course offers something for everyone. Check it out at: http://home.netcom.com/~pappa3/ Erik Mann (P3) Erik - Can you confirm that we're using the same rules and turnpoints as in 2004? Status quo. Some suggestions on the duration of the task came in, ranging from "it's too short, make it longer" to "it's too long, make it shorter." I chose the path of least resistance, which is to do nothing... On a side note, I am going to put up some special incentives from time to time to get some new blood out. Watch the Scores page for announcements. The first one will be a case of Yeungling to the first two-place under 30:1 ship to complete the task this year. Beer seems to be a remarkable incentive for glider pilots. P3 |

Erik,
If I fly out of Ffd and touch two or more G-Cup turn areas, may I submit my flight? Will you give me the distance to and from the task area? OC |

Todd pretty much has it nailed! But, to make it really interesting, we'll give you two (not one, but two) cases of beer if you complete the South Course out of Fairfield. The logical attempt would be on a ridge day: - Start ffd and make it up to either the Tuscarora or over to Clarks Ferry then onto Bear/Berry. Fall back from there to Blue Mountain at Hawk Mountain. - Start at Beltzville (only need to go about 3 miles upwind to get a start. - Nip southern end of Blairstown circle from the ridge - Thermals for the next 4 turns: Van Sant, PGC, Pottstown, Kutztown. - Flop back on the ridge near Flying M airport and scoot back up to Beltzville for the finish. - Retrace steps across the Susquehanna. Easy! :-)) P3 |

I'm game. Do I get to name the beer, and will you bring it to R4N? Or
are you saving PTO for Ceasar Creek? Cheers, OC |

Chris et. al. ,
The default beer of the Governors Cup is Yeungling, as we frequently need to find a thermal near the brewery to make a difficult transition during ridge runs. So, it seems only fair to make offerings to the brewery in the hope that will encourage the thermal gods to smile on us. P3 |
