I'm in and have already emailed you.
However, just why do many think EAA is unresponsive and the top few (one?) living lavishly? This is a genuine question of curiosity, not trying to provoke a heated thread though I expect one will result anyway. I'm curious because first, didn't EAA do some good with the Sport Aviation stuff? I'm assuming they were the main force behind it, I haven't seen AOPA promote it much. And second, don't all the alphabet groups get gripes? There's always the whining about Phil Boyer's lavish lifestyle, and so on. |

Although this was not aimed at me, I'll give you what everyone has. (my opinion) My main bitch about the EAA is not the lifestyle of the Ceo's, ect. There will always be wealth at the top, and many other large groups prbably have Ceo's with more wealth. My problem is the lack of concentration on the homebuilder. I'm curious because first, didn't EAA do some good with the Sport Aviation stuff? Yep, they done good, but perhaps, perhaps not, they could have done better. Given that this is the FAA they were dealing with, who knows. Seems like they could have gotten the weight limits high enough that the C-150/152 could have squeezed under the limit. Night VFR with an additional sign-off would have been nice, too. I'll still support anyone of fairly good character (I guess you will squeeze in, Jim ;-) ) from our grassroots group that wants to get the "common man" back into the power structure of the EAA. -- Jim in NC |

Seems to me EAA cannot afford to support homebuilding/restoring as its
primary activity. It's made itself into a commercial money machine, and not doing too well at that. Significant net losses in recent years, per their IRS From 990. They now hide losses from members by consolidating the income statement with the Foundation, which is good-faith contributor money and bequests in wills for the museum and education programs. Membership has been flat for some years now, and may now be declining. # of chapters declining, with their relevance declining as internet email lists now provide better builder support than any chapter of old duffs who no longer fly. % of dues spent on member services has been on the decline. There is a necessary disclosure in the IRS forms about who it is who controls the printing company which prints the magazine, someone long associated with EAA. And what's the deal with Zaug's, who has been the food vendor at the convention for as long as I can remember? Are they getting the best deal for these services? And they continue the big lie about 750,000 attendance at the conventions. And the huge amount of money spent on the Wright Flyer was an embarrassing flop. And Poberezny's compensation does not appear to be performance based, just same as last year plus a good COLA. I am still a member. Only EAA can keep FAA from imposing stricter rules on homebuilts, with onerous examples in some other countries. But the financials suggest to me they gotta get their act together soon, or the house of cards.... Fred F. |

Shelly Not shirking my duty to vote here, so you'll have to give me a few days to pay dues. Matter of fact, I refused to pay dues this year because some anonymous person told us about how EAA leadership had appeared to have rigged a contest so that the award, an O-235 Lycoming, had gone to an EAA director needing one for his project. (Smarmy in and of itself.) But in order for him to win and thereby shoot two other contestants down, the deadline for the competition was inexplicably extended so that a book of questionable provenance could be published. I. e., it looked like a common, crooked, smelly insider deal to me. Knowing some of those people it piXXed me off so bad that I thought, well, hell, I'll boycott them this year and attend Lumberton and maybe Alliance and Brodhead. |

Hey Jim,
Someone suggested putting the petition on a web site so we could download it and print it, instead of you emailing them all over the place. Any chance that will happen? If so, I'll do my best to circulate it. Also, how about a brief explanation of why you are running and what your platform is, since the people I will be talking to probably don't know you from rec.aviation.* I'm with you... Dave |

Absolutely. That's a hell of an idea. I'll have it up for download along
with a resume and platform by 2000Z today, Thursday the 20th of January 2005. Email comments on the resume and platform encouraged. I get my best ideas from you guys. www.rstengineering.com/eaabod Jim "Dave Butler" wrote in message news:1106237056.670790@sj-nntpcache-3...
