I received my glider rating back in the 80's but didnt do much with it (have been flying tailwheel and floats).
Now I would like to start up again, and live in SF. What do you recommend for a sailplane? Any good places? And this whole motorized or self start didnt exist when I got my rating. Are these just as much fun? Is there one you would recommend? thanks, |

Well, since you live in San Francisco you can travel to Hollister,
Williams (Williams Soaring Center), Crazy Creek on the other side of the mountains from Calistoga or if you can travel a bit further there is Minden, Truckee......and a glider ...take a look at www.wingsandwheels.com Hope this would help. Jacek Kobiesa Washington State ex-San Francisco |

Assuming that SF means San Francisco, then check this link out.
http://www.bluebound.com/States/Cali...ng_gliding.htm Almost any glider is better than none! If you can train in a ASK21 or Grob 103, you will be prepared for most any modern glider. There are legitimate differences of opinion here, but the less modern ships, i.e. SGS 2-33, do not prepare as well for the glass generation. enjoy! -- Hartley Falbaum Georgia, USA "freestone" wrote in message ... To see lots of different gliders, including some beautiful self-launch ships (like my ASH26E :c), visit Minden, NV. My ASH is kept assembled/hangared, so you can stop by anytime. Actually, the closest would be Northern California Soaring Association at Byron airport, near Tracy. It does provide training (in Blanks or G-103s) and has a fleet of gliders for members' use. No motorgliders yet... -- Yuliy P.S.: Northern California Soaring Association website: http://norcalsoaring.org/ |
