I'm planning to fly from Tucson to Carson City in a couple of weeks. I'll
probably make a refueling stop in my Archer at Boulder City, then skoot under the Vegas class B to the west and head up towards Beatty and on to Carson City. Do any of you have experience with flying this route? Any suggestions for a better one? Its a bit of a wedgy with Restricted airspace to the east and the Sierra Nevadas to the west. -- Best Regards, Mike http://photoshow.comcast.net/mikenoel |

Don't worry about the Restricted Airspace to the East. It's Area 51,
and doesn't really exist. ![]() |

![]() I've flown from Phoenix to CXP in September the past couple of years to park there during the Reno Air Races. You've got the right idea. Jean airport (0L7) has fuel (although I just noticed that for some reason it doesn't have tick marks on the airport symbol on the sectional), and it skirts the class bravo a bit more easily to the south. Stick close to V105 past Beatty and Coaldale - it threads through the special use airspace nicely. -R Mike Noel wrote: I'm planning to fly from Tucson to Carson City in a couple of weeks. Jean does have fuel, self serve, bring a credit card, no one to pump it for
you. Nice casino within walking distance for lunch. It is not tucked in as tightly under the Class B as Boulder City. When leaving Jean, go west towards Good Springs, clear the Spring Mountain Range there, south of Mt Potosi and then head up the Valley to Beatty. A lot easier dealing with Class B shelves that way, and easier than getting over Red Rock after staying below the Class B from Boulder to Henderson to Red Rock. There is no FBO or phone service for FSS contact, but your cell phone will work. Also you might be able to reach FSS via the RCO on Mt Potosi while on the ground. BT "Rob" wrote in message ps.com... I've made the trip from Phoenix up to Tahoe a few times. I agree with the others that Jean is an easy stop. Another option to consider, especially if the weather is good, is to head east from Jean over Death Valley to Lone Pine and Bishop and take the tour up the Owens valley. Very scenic with Mt. Whitney and the Sierra Nevada range. It might be a little out of the way, but definitely more interesting than V-105. Mike |

Thanks very much for the information. Jean looks like a much better fuel
stop. I was fooled by the way it was charted. I see in the Jeppesen data base in my GPS that it is listed as having Jet and Av fuel. Jeppesen does show it with service tabs on thier software version of the chart. I wonder if the NACO charts are just wrong or there must be an attendant for them to tab thier symbols? -- Best Regards, Mike http://photoshow.comcast.net/mikenoel "smackey" wrote in message oups.com... The NACO charts are not wrong.. the markings you mention say "fuel available
and field attended during normal working hours", there is NO FBO at Jean, so the field is UNattended... the markings are correct. You may find the Jump School in business or the local Glider Ride operations, but neither of them provide maintenance or FBO services. They are not "attendants" to service the transient.
