Headline: Glider injured in Minden crash

Usually the PILOT gets injured, and the aircraft gets damaged.
Maybe some of us give the aircraft too much personality? ;)

Anyway, I hope he eventually comes out OK.

Well, I thought that I as a "English as a second language" person can
make goofs like that but a TV reporter????? Oh boy....isn't the media
just @#*&#@^ don't care and just running with their own agenda and
spiced-up stories?

Actually, I didn't see any spicing-up or agenda. It was a pretty
simple story as reported.

The grammar thing is what caught my eye. For those with a sense of
humor, I heartily recommend the book "Eats, Shoots and Leaves".
Yeah, it's a grammar book, but not like you'd think. (The title
refers to a dictionary description of a Panda, as I recall. But the
misplaced comma makes the description fit that of a hungry gunfighter
instead. OR perhaps the restaurant needs to improve its service to
Pandas...)

And while I have your attention (maybe), what the inside joke with
"jacek placek..."? My non-English skills are atrocious.

jacek placek (jacek pie)
bo przeplata (in this case it means "he is mixing a bit")
troche biega (littlebit "he runs")
troche lata (littlebit "he flies")

It is a Polish language game of words related to a name Jacek....it's
kinda funny...oh boy, here comes the grammar again. And I will look for
that book, it might be interesting. What I meant by the term "@^%$*&@
media" is a mere fact that media are using their combinations of words
and stories to obtain some level of sensation. Why would not they say
that a pilot was injured while flying in a glider? Or something similar
to that. I think that the reporter purposefully choose these words to
describe an accident. It seems to me that the media seem to be the most
influential force in the universe. And that is plainly wrong.

Heh heh. Sometimes I'm sure they do. Other times, you gotta just ask
"What were they thinking?" Jay Leno on the Tonight show has a routine
most Monday evenings called "Headlines". They aren't all newspaper
headlines, but most are. The way some of these things reads is
hilarious, sometimes misleading, occassionally naughty, but always
humorous.

In the case of this particular headline, I suspect the writer was
unfamiliar with the topic, and never grasped--nor intended--the
misdirection. Those of us who talk the "lingo" more often would likely
smile at it. It makes for an interesting day.

With Mansberger Aircraft having left Minden for Texas, who at Minden now
performs maintenance and repairs on gliders?
