Hi Jeff, Currently, I am a member of a flying club based at Stellar Airpark called The Arizona Cloudbusters. Small club with one 172SP, and two late model C182s (a K and a P model) I did my training at Tailwind Flight Centre at CHD and I can reccomend them without hesitation. IMO (and, for perspective, I'm a relatively new pilot) their planes are in very good shape, they run an honest business and while they've had some CFI turnover of late, the guys I've met even after I stopped renting there seem to be really sharp. IIRC, they have 2 C150s, 4 C172SPs (just added a G1000 equipped bird), an Arrow and a twin (but the exact model escapes me, sorry...A Seminole maybe...I may be thinking of Angel Air at Stellar.) If you go to Tailwind, ask for Tom Guifolye Sr or Jr (the owners ... aka T1 and T2) and have a chat with them. If I can be of more help, let me know. Regards, Jay Beckman PP-ASEL Chandler, AZ |

I'll also put in a shareless plug for Phoenix flyers, a non-profit
member-owned flying club. Excellent rates and good maintenance on 2 Archers, 1 Arrow, and 1 Commanche 260 based at CHD and DVT. www.phoenixflyers.org for more info. -Dan Jay B wrote: Jeff wrote: Jay if you dont mind, are you renting or own and if renting where at, at CHD and what kind of plane? I was looking at phoenix flyers, that comanche looked pretty old, but I only
hear good things about those planes. Dan wrote: I'll also put in a shareless plug for Phoenix flyers, a non-profit member-owned flying club. Jeff,
Yes, the Comanche is old, however it does have a Garmin 430, nice autopilot, and 84 gals of fuel. We are looking at a proposal to sell the Arrow and replace it with a 1998 or newer 182 with a Garmin GPS. If we did this, we would need to increase the buy-in from $2,000 to $4,000 and the monthly dues from $85 to $100. The new 182 would rent for $93/hr (tach time) wet, same price as the Arrow goes for right now. Would this make our club more or less attractive to you? Just wondering how prospective members would view this plan. Thanks, Dan Jeff wrote: I was looking at phoenix flyers, that comanche looked pretty old, but I only hear good things about those planes. If we did this, we would need to increase the buy-in from $2,000 to $4,000 That is a pretty sizable jump. Any way you can do it for a little less, like perhaps a little more per hour? That would be my suggestion. Big amounts of "cash right now" is harder for some to manage, than more spread out along a longer time. -- Jim in NC |
