Press relase follows:
Aircraft builders track 40,000+ hours of construction progress using using free software Burlington, VT -- November 1, 2006 -- Where can an airplane builder go to glean free insight and tips from hundreds of their aviation peers? ExperCraft offers just such a destination (http://www.expercraft.com) via it's Simple Log documentation software. In the two years since Simple Log's debut, aircraft builders have logged 40,285 hours of progress on more than 100 different types of homebuilt aircraft projects. The log entries, combined with more than 11,000 images, create the largest, single, searchable source of aircraft construction notes and photographs ever created. "I've been pleasantly surprised at the popularity of Simple Log", states ExperCraft's founder, Rob Riggen. "Ease of use was of the utmost importance in developing the software. It's currently being used by both computer programmers and non-technical people alike and the feedback has been very positive." Riggen says Simple Log was launched with a very small set of features initially. "This was done so that feedback could be gathered from our users and be incorporated directly into Simple Log." Aircraft home builders have been an integral part of designing Simple Log. The result is a tool that is exactly what is needed without being overly complicated or cumbersome to use. Owing partly to it's popularity is the fact that Simple Log is free. Riggen says this is an important aspect of the software. "Free promotes widespread adoption. I feel it is so important to standardize the documentation process. I wasted a lot of time researching for my own aircraft project. Most of it was spent trying to figure out where the information was and how to navigate a variety of Web sites. Simple Log stores all project information in an organized way. This greatly reduces the time builders spend searching projects", Riggen observes. Any computer with Internet access can be used with Simple Log. No special software is required as the system is accessed just like any other Web page, using Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer or other Web browsing programs. This accessibility solves the problems of most other documentation systems. No longer is a builder limited to updating only from their home computer. "Many ExperCraft users work on their airplane project until the wee-hours of the morning. They don't want to take the time to write up documentation immediately afterward, they're too tired! Using Simple Log they can update their log online from home or at work", says Riggen. A personal Web site, which is a standard part of Simple Log, provides a unique Web address for sharing project information and is updated automatically when the project log is updated. The ExperCraft Web site also offers advantages for those who are still in the "dreaming" stage of their project. Future builders can follow the progress of many different aircraft types to see which project might best suit their budget and skill level. Now that the ExperCraft software is entering maturity the focus of development will be on creating new and easy ways to provide public access to the project data and spreading the word. "As a builder, having finger-tip access to this much data will be a real time and money-saver."
