I understand that they need to make profit and indeed it is a good thing
if one wants them to continue to operate, my point is that I would like to know up front what it is before I commit. Paul Dan G wrote: Indeed true, but this is quite common among Web 2.0 apps (you wouldn't expect them to put "this will be free forever!" would you?). Normally, pure subscription methods are not too successful so there's always a free variant (e.g. Flickr). More likely, they're hoping somebody like Yahoo will buy them out. I've been using Zoho since the spring and have found the service and support (they're extremely responsive if you ask questions in the forum) to be very good. Freeware or cheap all good words -- Mal www.mals.net If you don't mind getting your hands dirty you can roll your own quite easily with http://creator.zoho.com . Dan Dan HUGE thanks that app/tool was an answer to about 6 prayers sure it will help many on AA and other places rate that as find of the month --thanks Interesting indeed, but did you read the Terms of Service? If I understand it correctly, it saying something like: "whilst the service is free now we reserve the right to charge you an undisclosed amount some time in the future" Paul |

Martin Gregorie wrote: Its interesting, but is not portable. You can only run applications based in their site and there is no indication of (a) whether it will ever become a package you can install on your own website or (b) what it runs on. If you can live within those restrictions then it could be very useful. Actually it's easy to embed the interfaces you require into your own website; the system then runs as a hosted service (i.e. hassle-free). Just follow the instructions provided. I see two possible limitations of this approach: - can you change the look & feel of your app to match the rest of the club site? - it would be hard to tie something on a separate site into other club systems, such as instructor scheduling or the club accounting system. Those are both reasons why my personal preference would be for something installed on my own site but ymmv. -- martin@ | Martin Gregorie gregorie. | Essex, UK org | |
