Ventured into Cumbria yesterday in search of some low flying activity. A
decent assortment of types made the day interesting and the specially
painted Tornado made the four hour wait for it worthwhile, though my camera
battery didn't think so, it packed in after the first shot!

Isn't that always the way it happens when your ready to get that shot, battery dead,
full card, etc...

Really nice stuff Rusty! Thanks!

Tom

Rusty, could you post a "Google Earth" picture of your location when
photographing these aircraft?

Sorry Bob but I don't use Google Earth' but I was at the southern end of
Thirlemere lake. Here is a picture of the lake with me in that gap in the
hills at the far end. I'm sure you can find it from that.

Have to say Rusty's picture looks better but this might be the overview

Very nice country. I'll have to make a point of visiting someday.

Marvelous set of images there Rusty... thanks for posting them!

BTW: Sorry if you've been asked this before, but what camera/lens
combination were you using?

Cheers

I am still using a Canon 10D with a 100-400 lens. This combination has
served me well for the past four years but the fact that I am usually
shooting in the dark (in the cloudy mountains) and the push-me pull-you zoom
on the Canon lens (that I defy anybody to get the hang of whilst panning)
means that I am shortly going to buy a 300mm f2.8. The 10D will also be
superceded by the 40D as soon as it arrives. You can always check my
camera/photo details by downloading a photo and right clicking on the file
and selecting propertie/advanced. - it even tells you the time that it was
taken (UK time that is).
