found a few of these aircraft while driving by...can someone ID aircraft
type?

It is a US Navy S2F.

It is a "STOOF" (S2F or S-2G or S-2E Tracker or C-1ATrader or E-1B Tracer
or US-2B or WF-2) There are probably other designations I have missed...

Definitely an S-2, not the C-1 or E-1. You can see the bomb bay door under
the airframe.

I remember a speech by a submariner... but what he said can be translated
into aviation terms as:
