Depending on the information given by the pilot, what chances do the cops
think they will catch the offenders unless they are in the street, at the
time, and the pilot can pin point the location.

Unless the light is coming from the one spot all the time, there will be
little they can do.

I feel the same way. One has to really, really be dumb to get caught
doing that.

I was at Melbourne Airport's lookout, on Bulla Road a couple of years ago.

There were a few cars there and the AFP pulled up and began searching and
questioning everyone, car to car. They even asked about why a door trim was
missing from my car.

The car next to us had a couple who were 'fornicating'. Lol, they weren't
too happy seeing a torch light flash through their windows.

All in all, they were asking if anyone saw lasers being shone at aircraft
and searching vehicles.

That kinda goes beyond what has been mentioned here.
