Anyone know if the SZD-55 canopy uses the same perspex molding as the
SZD-48-3 or the 59? (the Jantar Std 3 and the Acro have the same exact canopy/frame, I have a 59...) Before lectures start about how even 'identical canopies' are slightly different from one individual ship to the next, I'm not looking for a new canopy (thank god!). I'm only trying to have one of those oh-so- nifty platinum canopy covers made since it's 'hot time' again, http://www.easycanopycovers.com/ and Boyd only has the pattern for a 55 as of now, which to my eye looks like the same canopy but with a little bit different shape frame at the aft (the 59/48-3 has slightly more radius at the bottom corner) and it's not far fetched for SZD to 'recycle' like that (nor any other manufacturers...), but before buying one fit for a 55 I'd prefer some confirmation, even the questionable kind found here ![]() TIA. -Paul PS. -or... if anyone knows of a 48-3/59 near Warner Springs... |

Hmmm, actually, looking at factory drawings makes them look far less
alike unfortunately... ![]() http://www.alpenstreckenflug.de/Pros...o/Image-04.JPG http://www.alpenstreckenflug.de/Pros...1/Image-02.JPG Well... any known 48's or 59s near Warner? -Paul |

Jacek Thanks all for answers. I do know the 48-3 and 59 are the same, but more importantly I solved the problem I was trying to with my original question as to whether the 55 shares the canopy with the 48-3/59 (which it does not, figured out by inspecting factory drawings more closely and then confirmed by another post). The Platinum Canopy Cap folks (Franklin Fabrication) kindly got in touch with me after seeing my post here and gave me the specific measurement points they use to make new patterns. If anyone is interested in having one of these fine covers made for their ship and it too also is not yet on the list of available covers, I can send you the .pdf that Franklin Fab sent me which illustrates quite clearly what they need to add your plane. These covers are nothing short of amazing, and convenient doesn't even begin to describe the usefulness of them, plus they look really slick. If you live somewhere warm/hot, or even just sunny, your getup is really quite incomplete without one of these... http://www.easycanopycovers.com/ watch the embedded vids halfway down the page to see fellas removing their own covers and stowing them unassisted- while buckled in their ships! Try that with any other cover while gridded... 'we don't need no stinkin umbrellas!' -Paul |
