Default WinPilot 9 questions

Does anyone know how to get circular start gates to work correctly in
WP 9?

I cannot get the arm start/auto start process to work with circular
gates and when I start manually the speed on task is never correct
(starts very high).

Evan,

You mean it is suppose to auto start ;-)? I have never been able to
get it to work and have nearly given up on Jerry fixing the speed
bug. You get the same problem on leg speed, but it will at least auto
advance. I don't think he has a height built into the gate
parameters either so you can't start out of the top either.

I have sent several requests for updates but he seems to be focused on
FLARM and not on making the program work for racing.

The speed issue appears to be that WinPilot is using the distance from
the center of the Start to where you are rather than the 5 mile radius
you started at.

Unfortunately Richard is racing this week to try and prod this, so by
the time I get to Parowan I will still be manually starting and
ignoring my speed for the first 20 miles.

That's the way I see it, also. The hell of it is, it's pretty close
to being a good program. The autostart works fine for fai style
sectors and the auto advance works well for ATs/MATs. It could use
some work in the way it handles MATs and AATs.

Your right it is a pretty good program. I haven't found anything that
is better yet, but I keep looking becasue it could be a great program
with a few changes.

I have been requesting:

1. Fix the start issues
2. Fix the speed bug
3. Add up to 13 turnpoint spots and a scroll on the Task Page for
MAT's
4. Set up a paging function so you can have several main pages to look
at depending on what you want to see.

Nothing big, but it would make the program a lot better.

I'd really like to see a practical solution to editing an MAT on task
(i.e. during the race). Haven't seen one, yet. Think v9 will handle
plenty of TPs, and it does scroll, but editing while on task isn't
feasible.

I too have tried to get Jerry to respond to bugfixes and/or feature
requests, with absolutely no success. IIRC, the last thing Jerry did
was fix the bug that allowed the user to 'Turn Here' outside a turn
area without a warning dialog (don't ask me how I know).

I tried for quite a while to get Jerry to add arrival height for an
AAT mobile turnpoint - very useful for turn planning on upwind/
downwind legs. All the required information is available, and he does
it already for non-mobile turnpoints. He never even responded to
emails, and of course his 'developer forum' hasn't worked for years.

I have been using WP9 for years, but I have finally given up. I now
use SoarPilot on a Palm Tungsten T/Magellan GPS Companion combination
almost exclusively. The SP developers actually listen to their users
and respond!
