The B-29, F-84F, S-16 and B-36 were there but even then they were sawing up planes on the flightline with chainsawa and the like. Sadly watched them cut up an RF-105, apparently a prototype.. |

The government it seems are more interested in preserving old crates, like the Sea King for instance! :-( Is Chanute still an active base? I was there for an exchange Maintenance Analysis course when I was with a Canadian Bomarc Squadron as a quality control inspector way back when!. Ed |

That plane is in very good hands - I first visited the museum last March and most of the staff are retired USAF folks who really care about the collection. I didn't know a B-18 existed any- where until I saw the one at Castle. Best, Paul |

When the musuem was established, most of the aircraft that were scattered around the base were moved into the big hangars across the street from the USAF tech school. The B-29 and B-36 were moved to other bases. The 36 when to Castle AFB, which then closed, but the museum is still there. I forget where the 29 went, but it may have gone to Travis. There are still a few planes outside at Chanute, including the B-52. -john- -- ================================================== ================== John A.
