The best way to get a good wind calculation while flying "straight",
such as on a final glide, descending through wind gradients and shears, I do the following per conversation with Dave Ellis a few years ago: 1. Turn 45 degrees off course and fly straight for 10-15 seconds. 2. Turn 90 degrees in the opposite direction and fly straight for 10-15 sec. 3. Resume original course. The 302 want to see a couple of straight glides in different directions in order to use TAS & ground track to come up with a wind. I keep the HW component and delta wind displayed on my GlideNav and if the delta exceeds a couple knots, I know it's time for a new wind calculation. -Tom |

I didn't even know this was a feature in the 302. I use Winpilot and mCu, both of which do their own circle drift calcs I think. 9B |
