Now that Costello has announced that for purposes of being covered by insurance, clubs can make their own determination for experience requirements for tow pilots, I wonder what some of you are looking at doing. As I understand it, the old basic insurance requirement was 500 hrs PIC and 100 hrs tailwheel to be automatically covered, or for a named pilot 200 hrs PIC and a tailwheel endorsement (plus the usual training flights, etc.) 61.69 requires 100 PIC in category and class, so that would be the minimum. I noticed that quite a few clubs require 500 hrs PIC and 100 hrs tailwheel. Now that the insurance requirements have been changed, will you be keeping these requirements as they are or will you be modifying them? Bruce Can you provide a link to Costello's website detailing this change? |

For now, your policy probably hasn't changed. But if you change, renew, or update, the requirements seem to be just the FAA requirements. With that said, I am interested it this as we are going to have to deal with it soon at my club. Brian |

Brian- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - our club has no shortage of tow pilots, so we will keep the same minimums and also require that the tow pilots are fully qualified in gliders. |

We did call Costello to confirm that the latest changes applied to our
policy and were surprised to learn that they already did. Previous to that call we were under the impression that the change would take place at policy renewal. But you are right, clubs should check for themselves as to what their particular situation is as things stand now. Bruce "brianDG303" wrote in message ... When a friend and I had a taildragger which we rented out, the
insurance company agreed to my idea of cutting the required hours in half and double the takeoff and landing requirement. Clubs may find this more practical than demanding high taildragger hours. Jim |

Bruce For now we will stick with what they wanted when we asked for a named pilot. Private Pilot, 200hrs total time, 100hrs Airplane, and at least 10 recent hours of tail wheel time, or a recent tail wheel endorsement in a comparable aircraft. (Super Cub, Decathlon, Scout etc) |
