In the new EAA magazine this month, they've published a survey of
their pilot-members. Most of it is silly/fun stuff, but one statistic really caught my eye. Fully 32% of respondents admit to having being told to "Call the tower" after landing! One third of all EAA members have been told to "call the tower"? Is that possible? Have you been asked to "Call the tower"? -- Jay Honeck Port Aransas, TX Pathfinder N56993 Ercoupe N94856 (Sold) Warrior N33431 (Sold) |

Have you been asked to "Call the tower"? Once in San Luis Obispo after my radio was acting up and I had trouble communicating. And frequently at Chandler Airport in Fresno CA where I was based. I was flying a NORDO Baby Lakes and the tower personnel were pretty casual. It was kind of a joke since the top wing on the Baby Lakes was right in the middle of my field of vision and I frequently couldn't see the light when approaching. |

Hi,
In article , Jay wrote: Have you been asked to "Call the tower"? Not quite the same thing, but here in the UK when landing at my home field, I was asked by the final Controller I spoke to to call the field I had just left. Turns out I busted their noise abatement procedures and was the result of (one of many) complaints (the field has a particularly picky 'neighbour' that loves to get aircraft registrations and call to complain). Was just told what I'd done and asked to be a little more careful in future. Andy |

Crosscountry and not able to contact the Tower on the designated
frequency. So used another and sorted it out over a cup of tea and chokky biscuits in the Tower :-) |

Have you been asked to "Call the tower"? My buddy flew us into Kalispell City Airport (S27) without calling the tower. His excuse was, he'd been flying there his entire life and there had never been a tower there before. But, IIRC, it was phrased as something other than a request. ----- - gpsman |

He probably got hood-winked by some fly-by-night operation. |
