I have found a local seasoned pilot who lives in Nephi, Utah who owns a Cessna 182 and is wanting to offer tows and is willing to put tow gear on his plane. That is great news that we won't always have to fly in tow planes to this amazing location to soar. The only question is where do you go to find tow gear for a 182? I called Wings and Wheels and Tim was friendly but not able to steer me to any solution.
This is an important project since we so badly want to have Nephi become a permanent soaring destination for everyone to enjoy year after year. Having a local who is wanting to give tows with their own plane is a perfect start. Our August 2013 soaring safari with 45+ participating gliders will easily help fund getting him set up and going. We just need to find the hardware and know how to set his 182 up for towing. He is so excited about helping out the local soaring that he is considering doubling his new hangar he is building this spring to allow for a few sailplanes to rent hangar space! Way cool! Please help with any info. Thanks so much! Bruno - B4 801-652-6631 |

If you can find a tow hook with a Cessna part number on it its simply a bolt on part requiring an a&p sign off. Drawing available he http://www.wingsunlimitedtowhooks.com/technical.html
If not use chapter 8 of ac43.13-2B as a guide and you'll have to get a 337. Either way I'd you want a release inside the cockpit you'll need a 337. Should be pretty easy to get the 182 towing and sounds like a great opportunity. Its always nice to have a locally based towplane. |

Sierra Soaring out of IYK uses a 182A as a towplane. We did the 337
process with our A&P/IA to install the tow hook. I think the hook is a Schweizer one (I know it's certainly not a Tost). I'll send you an email with the owners contact information and you can discuss with him the details of the install. |

Thanks for all the replies. I was able through this post to find a local 182 owner who is not needing his hook any more.
