Time for a new laptop and it looks like many of the desirable choices (for me) include Windows 8 64 bit. Are there problems running any of the legacy apps we use in soaring. I tried searching here and on Naviter forums but found little useful information. So, any experience, good or bad will help me.. And, Appleboys, please spare me the diatribe. SZ

SZ SeeYou and the Mobile SeeYou Sims seem to run fine on the Windows 8 64 bit platform. You fustration will be the change in the system and how it operates. Richard www.craggyaero.com |

I've been running w8 for a year and w8.1 for a few weeks (32bit version)
with no problems on a desktop. (There's a lot of nonsense in the press about the metro changes but to be honest it is very easy to set it up so that you work in the desktop the majority of the time.) The only significant legacy application problem I have come across is with a serial to usb interface cable that connects an Oudie to the pc for use with Condor. W8.1 introduced changes that mean the cable chip isn't supported any more so I have had to change it to a Bluetooth connection. SeeYou, Spine etc all work fine. I'd say that W8 has been the most stable release of windows I have used. Regards Peter |

Windows 8 is an abomination and everyone at MS associated with it should be fired, blacklisted, and sent to prison in Kageekastan. I deal with a Dell reseller that can still get WIN 7 64 Bit( installed on new machines). which is a rock solid operating system. IF MS stays true to form they will come to their senses by the time they release Windows 9. My advice is to skip 8 if at all possible.
I did try Windows 8 for three months on the home PC. My wife urged me to change it out for Win 7, because of all the cussing coming from the computer operator. I did, and the cussing declined back to normal levels. |
