Has anyone ever dealt with lead (Pb) issues in the cockpit of a Pawnee? I recently did a 3M lead test on the surfaces in the cockpit and found high lead readings. I suspect it is related to 100LL fumes coming into the cockpit around the floor in fore of the rudder pedals.

The lead residue is the least of your problems, its the 40 years of spraying organophosphates that have soaked into hopper from all the years of spraying that you might think about.

Dan Yeah, but that third eye growing out of the back of your head makes it easier to lookout for traffic! Plus, the odor of the chemicals pretty much masks the smell of the CO from the exhaust coming in through the main gear attach openings - unless you are a wuss and install the original Piper gear seals... Up till not too many years ago a high percentage of fertilizer had substantial amounts of lead in them. To check the exhaust a CO2 inexpensive monitor will do the job nicely. If the lead is a result if the fertilizer just remember that you will not absorb it through the skin. You can ingest it. WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE EATING OR SMOKING and you will be fine. This is an OSHA requirement for occupations with lead exposure such as battery making.

About 5 years ago our Pawnee was taken down to bare metal, repainted
frame, new covering and upholstery, and no hopper. No bad smells.
