On four recent flights that I was on, they made a big deal about cell phones not being used at all, but said that 'other electronic equipment' could be used after the signs were switched. Most receivers have low power heterodyne signals but then all computers contain high frequency oscillators. Couple of years ago on a feeder airliner I sent my GPS unit up to the cockpit as the in-flight attendant had no idea what it was. It came back from the Captain saying I was welcome to use at long as the seat belt sign was off. On the other hand her message said that she didn't think it would work well where I was siting - under the wing! The Captain was right. -- Francis E-Mail reply to |
