Even as the news media envision powerful lasers blasting airliners out of the sky, pilots have been experimenting with using lasers to make flying safer. This rescue device was developed by an Alaskan pilot. It doesn't seem likely to blind anybody, but if I was relying on one of these I would want extra batteries. Odd that these guys cite AC 70-2 as a good thing. AC 70-2 was issued in response to laser threats, not because somebody might be using the things as an emergency signaling device.
