Filser has an electronic compass accessory that can be used with the
5000 (I assume with the 7000 now) to provide "instantaneous" wind resolution from airspeed, heading, and gps. I would love to hear from anyone using this, and an evaluation as to how well it works. For most thermal flying the "standard" means of wind calculation is fine, but in mountain / ridge / wave flying it seems it would be really nice to get on the spot wind information. I use the Filser "straight line" algorithm so thermal turns are not required for wind direction, but it seems more like it is always catching up with the wind, and changes in speed and heading upset it for a while until things settle down. If the compass option increased this accuracy, and responsiveness I would be interested in shelling out the big euro for it... Rick 304cz "RR" |
