Default Garmin 296 strangeness

I experienced some strangeness with my 296 the other night. We recently
upgraded to the latest software and I've taken it on a trip to NM. The
other night I noticed the unit did not power on when I turned on the
bus voltage (its wired into the cig lighter full time). So I turned it
on manually. It would then only pick up one sat. The Sat screen also
showed an icon with a battery with a lightening bolt through it. I
unplugged the unit (which generated the power loss screen) and tried to
adjust all connections in the back. It still didn't work. I also power
cycled it several times. After about 30 minutes the background went
white and a giant icon was displayed that said "charge complete". I've
never seen this before (didn't even know I was charging it). I then
power cycled the unit again and it come up with lots of sats and worked
great. Seems like a software problem. It seems like it got stuck in
some strange power mode. Has anyone else seen this?

-Robert
