Just flew another 2.1 in our local Diamond Star with the G1000. Flew a
friend down to St. Louis area to pick up his daughter. On the way back, I was putting a chart (the big book from AirChart Systems) down on the floor between my feet. I bumped the Master/Alt switch. I looked up wondering why the intercom died & saw 2 dark screens. Poo. It was a beautiful (hot) day, so no problem. I turn the master back on and in a few seconds I've got the primary display back. Radios & Nav, but no GPS signal, and we're right under the shelf of St. Louis class B. After a quick, but required, refresher on pilotage we cleared the St. Louis area. We couldn't find a way to recycle just the GPS. I turned off the Avionics switch for a few seconds. Killed everything but the primary flight display. When I brought it back on, we had full GPS again. Pretty weird. Only having about 4.5 hours behind a G1000, I'd hate to have that happen IFR. Ugh. Lesson learned? First, don't do that. Second, the quick on/off of the main master without turning off the Avionics master apparently causing some havoc in there somewhere. Third, always have charts handy. -- PP-ASEL, instrument |
