This past Tuesday, a legend of Naval aviation passed on.
CAPT Roy M. "Butch" Voris, USN (ret.) First CO of the Blue Angels. Plank owner in the original VF-10 ("Grim Reapers") 3 DFCs, 11 Air Medals, Purple Heart, 3 Presidential Unit Citations. http://www.blueangels.org/FBlue.htm http://www.firstblueangel.com/news.php I had the pleasure of meeting Butch within the past two years, most recently on June 12 at a Friends of Aces function at Alameda Point. Although Butch had much difficulty taxiing without assistance, his mind - and especially his wit - were sharp and quite colorful. Butch had an incredible collection of sea stories and told them so well that anyone in this group could easily believe each and every one of them. Very fortunately, the Friends of Aces captured most of these on videotape, so they have not been lost. He will be missed. -- Mike Kanze 436 Greenbrier Road Half Moon Bay, California 94019-2259 USA 650-726-7890 "Some people get lost in thought because it's such unfamiliar territory." - G. Behn |
