Just thought I'd update the group. Some months ago, I asked for folks
to give me their opinions on the Lowrance Airmap 2000c. Well, I bought one in May and I'm thrilled. Great display, fast to couple with the satellites, low power consumption and very, very easy to learn to use. I just plotted two routes in the thing, each of more than 250 miles and about 15 waypoints, in less than 10 minutes. It hasn't dropped signal once AND the thing came with many, many unexpected items of great quality for mounting the unit. Garmin had me trained to expect very little beyond the GPS itself in the package. At $700 (yes, it's easy to find it at this price on the web) it's about half what you're going to pay for a Garmin which doesn't have as good a feature set and isn't nearly so easy to use. I am a former Garmin customer. They lost me by abandoning my budget (I'm one of the $400 category customers) and trying to sell me high priced units with subscription plans. Okay, that's enough raving. Thanks to all who suggested I go ahead and take the chance! Greg Chapman |
