Default MI5 -- WTF?

On Sat, 25 Aug 2007 05:45:14 -0700, Jay Honeck wrote in

Okay, so this MI5 character has spammed almost every newsgroup in
existence. It appears to be computer-generated gibberish, broadcast
across a wide spectrum of 'groups.

Does anyone know what compells someone to do that? Is there a point?

He may be a paranoid schizophrenic. They say he's been spamming
Usenet for 12 years:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A694523

http://www.five.org.uk/root/#hotchfaq

His web site:

http://www.five.org.uk/

Then again, he may not exist.

Or he may be a performance artist.

As with other noise in the Usenet environment,
the best remedy is to ignore it.

I think you can write a pretty good filter
using "MI5" as the key term and get rid of
most of it--including replies like this, for
those who don't like to see OT material in the
group. ;o)
