Yesterday the Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX of the RNLAF Historic Flight
Foundation skidded of the runway on landing at Gilze-Rijen airbase in the Netherlands. The pilot was ok, but the aircraft suffered some damage. These are the only pictures I could find. The news agencies say this was the only flight-worthy Spitfire on the European mainland. Hope it will be restored before the next airshow in Holland. I've heard it fly and the sound is incredible. |
