Not all people have the mental fortitude and personal discipline
to be competent with a firearm and be prepared to use it effectively
to defend themselves or another person. For them, alternatives
are better.

For that segment of society who have obtained a CCW permit, i.e.
have a clean criminal and mental bill of health & have taken
time for required training and discipline, the fact remains that
they overwhelmingly have a spotless record in terms of not
committing crimes and even saving lives and stopping criminals.

I know of one case where a CCW holders permit was revoked for misuse: a
retired police officer (whose permit was issued automatically in accordance
to state CCW law by, virtue of his being a retired police officer) who shot
up a hospital ward in an attempt to kill his ex-wife. It occurred several
years ago (circa 1995) in Mesa, Arizona.
