For all of you interested in gliding history, an article about Lilienthal's
cause of death has just been published, based on a new analysis of the historical record. It is correctly cited as: Harsch V, Bardum B, Illig P. "Lilienthal's fatal glider crash in 1896: evidence regarding the cause of death." Aviat Space Environ Med 2008;79:993-4 It is in the October 2008 issue of the peer-reviewed journal "Aviation Space and Environmental Medicine," which is the scientific publication of the Aerospace Medical Association. You can get it at most medical libraries, or write the first author for a reprint (I can pass his contact info on to you, if you're interested). It's available online through asma.org , but only if you're a member, unfortunately. Bullwinkle |
