To All:
The bulk of the HVX mods consist of modifications that are found on modern engines. 'Modern' has lots of different definitions but I think the best one in this case is World War II, in that most of these modifications were developed during the war... and may be found on virtually ALL engines produced AFTER the war. As an example, BEFORE World War II every mechanic "knew" that every engine needed a 'Ring & Valve' job every 40,000 miles; that you changed your oil every thousand miles; that full-flow oil filtration systems were only found on luxury cars OR stationary power-plants. And that an engine was worn-out after a hundred thousand miles or so. Nowadays we have cars that are required by LAW to deliver a hundred thousand miles of service without needing so much as a tune-up. Full- flow oil filtration systems are found on virtually ALL engines, including even lawn mowers in many cases. The oil change interval often exceeds 10,000 miles. And on... and on... and on... NOTE: 'Auto-motive' means exactly that: Something that can move under its own power. Auto-motive is not limited to cars and trucks; auto-motive includes the Space Shuttle, the Martian rovers.... and my forty year old VW bus. World War II changed the automotive world. VW planned to introduce the Type IV as its standard engine but did not, due to the untimely death of its Director. Management of the company fell into the hands of those more interested in a quick return than in long-term quality and the pre-wwII power-plant was retained. The HVX mods are nothing more than showing how modern-day features as found on the Type IV (and other) engine(s) may be RETROFITTED to the early-model engine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ With the above as preamble, two of the modifications require using a diamond cutter to cut grooves in cast iron or steel parts. A major stumbling block for some is finding the necessary diamond burs at a price they can afford. -R.S.Hoover Harbor Freight offers a kit of diamond-tipped burs (item #36252-3VGA) for $15.00; typically less than the cost of a SINGLE diamond-tipped bur from other sources. How the diamond tipped burs are used is shown in the illustrated article: HVX MODS, and HVX MODS - Again, which are part of my blog: bobhooversblog.blogspot.com Various articles, such as "HVX Mods," which you will find in my blog, |
