Does anybody know, or know how to find out what the factory "standard"
avionics package was on a 1978 Grumman AA5B "Tiger"? Eddie |

You may try asking one of the old dealers, but you better have a good reason
if you really want them to look it up. www.fletchair.com "eddie" wrote in message . com... Does anybody know, or know how to find out what the factory "standard" avionics package was on a 1978 Grumman AA5B "Tiger"? Eddie |

Fletcher's down here at HOU. I'll stop by and see if I can pick their brain.
Thanks for the suggestion. I found a used one and the sellers representative can only tell me that it is all original avionics. I need more information. Thanks, Eddie "Dude" wrote in message ... If they're not original, there will be logbook entries indicating the installation. Do you not trust the logs? Dave Remove SHIRT to reply directly. |

Haven't seen the logs yet... Rep says they are "original"... Just don't
know what "original" means. Deal seems too shady to be legitimate. I'll probably just walk away. 1978 Tiger with 522 hrs TTAF&E but still flown regularly, just not much. Problem is, its located in Argentina. There are red flags all over this deal. Eddie "Dave Butler" wrote in message ... eddie wrote: Fletcher's down here at HOU. I'm pretty sure the ones we flew circa 1974 had King KX-170s in them. They
were single radio because we didn't use them for anything other than pretty basic stuff. -- Jim Carter Seen on a bumper sticker: If you can read this, thank a teacher If you can read this in English, thank a soldier. That's not even 2 hours per month average since new. And, how in the world
are you going to do a pre-buy in Argentina? -- Jim Carter Seen on a bumper sticker: If you can read this, thank a teacher If you can read this in English, thank a soldier. My point exactly. I don't think its worth the risk even if the price is way
below market. Eddie "Jim Carter" wrote in message y.com... That's not even 2 hours per month average since new. Importing an airplane is not trivial. First of all, no one will
finance it, so you can forget using it as collateral. This is BEFORE it is imported. Once you get it US registered this is no longer true. Then you have to have it inspected. If it has had any modifications that are not USA approved (like a Canadian STC that is not an STC in the USA), you have to fix that. All of this has to be done by a DER, an IA wont do. It helps if the airplane was originally certified as a USA aircraft. You also have to repaint the N Numbers. A rough estimate is that it takes about $10,000 to inspect, deliver, re-certify, paint and whatever else you run into. But you never know how much it will cost, could be less, could be more. In your case, Argentina is a long way away. Expensive and risky delivery. For a while they were importing aircraft from South Africa. You could buy a Baron for 1/2 the price of a USA one. Canadian 185's seem to go for about $20K less than US ones. So it can make sense. The less expensive the aircraft, the lesss sense it makes. Proabably just as expensive to import a 200k aircraft as a 50k one. If I were to import one, I'd call a big dealer in Canada and see if I could get the name of a USA DER that specializes in these issues. Talk to him and see how much it would cost. I suspect there are some near the Canadian border. |

There are Tigers available for sale in the US, if you want one and are
patient you can find a good one. Spend some time with the grumman owners group (Grumman Gang, etc) and you'll get a lot of information and offers of planes for sale. It took me about 6 months to find a good well-maintaned Tiger. -Marc "eddie" wrote in message m... Haven't seen the logs yet... Rep says they are "original"... Just don't know what "original" means.
