![]() So it would still be the X-35, right? No, wrong. It is not one of the X-35 prototypes. It is a full scale model of the eventual F-35. I've seen one of the F-35 mock-ups a few years ago. It looked rather smart and quite convincing from a distance. Regards, Ralph Savelsberg (miso) wrote in message . com... Is the F-35 really the X-35? I doubt Nellis has one on hand, so did it fly in from Edwards? Anyway, it's nice you got too see it in the daylight rather than in a dark hanger as was the case at Edwards. [Hey, not that I'm complaining ....] It looks like the F-35 mock-up, not the real thing. Way too clean! Looks odd without a HUD - like a sports plane, not a fighter...(the X-35s have a HUD, I believe). Kirk It is indeed one of two full scale mock-ups that LM Aero puts on display, this is the latest one that was first seen at the Paris Air Show earlier this year. The F-35 does not have a HUD. Or in the words of Monty Python " It's only a model". While it is very close to what the F-35 lines are at this time, there have been some changes from when it was finished; May of this year. There is another full-scale mock-up that Lockheed Martin Aero has been showing for several years, but this one is more up to date. Regards Jim Barr |

Anyone seen any pictures of the helmet display (hardware and displays) that is going to be used in place of a more conventional HUD? Is is related to the HMS that is being added to the F-15 (which has quite a bit of symbology displayed compared to a simple "point the seeker" HMS)? Kirk |
