1000 km flight from the winch at Greytown
On April 1 last year Wellington gliding club moved from their site of more than half a century at Paraparaumu to a rural site near Greytown, and at the same time swapped aerotow (Tiger Moth, then Cubs, then Pawnees) for a new Skylaunch winch. Both sites are about 25 km from the same mountain chain, but on opposite sides
On Sunday February 12th visiting pilot Keith Essex made a 1000 km flight from a 1500 ft winch launch, only the 3rd 1000 km flight ever in the North Island. http://times-age.co.nz/back-epic-1000km-glide/ Keith followed up with a 1250 km flight on Valentine's Day, but suffered a problem with the LX flight recorder.
