Does a Mach meter display speeds that low?

And if you fly mph, you don't have to convert either. Doesn't help when some
flight planning program you're trying to use insists on you entering everything
in knots.

A good approximation is ... divide the number by 7, then ...
from kts to mph add what you get to get mph, or
from mph to kts, subtract what you get to get kts.

ex .. 70 kts is 70 plus 10 or 80 mph.

or 70 mph is 70 minus 10 or 60 kts.

It's close, within a knot or two ( or mph or 2)
not exact ..but ..close nuf for government work !

Remember the Mars probe that got lost because half of the engineering team
worked in metric units while the other worked in feet???

Actually, you do. If you're going from Mach to TAS, you need to correct for
temperature. And if you need IAS (for determining approach speeds, ect) you
need further corrections for density (EAS), compressibility (CAS) and instrument
error (IAS).

One good place to check out formulas and such is google.

Example: type in google search bar:

1 mph in knots

it will come back with 1 mph = 0.868976242 knots

You can type any number in there. Googles built in calculator can come
in handy. You cooks out there?? You can type in things like 5 cups in
tablespoons.

Almost anything you can think of to convert google calculator will do
it. (anyone know muchb about rods? 1 mile is equal to 320 rods) You can
even do such things as 5+5+5+6+10/4-3 etc etc and it will figure it out
for you.

Take Care
Nathan

Whats the conversion off hand to convert?
Our airplanes have MPH on the AS gauge, and our checklists have kts
(ie Best Glide, 65kts)

That's great. Now all he needs is his laptop displaying Google while he
is flying! ;-)

Seriously now, thanks for the information. I didn't know Google did
that.
