Another question, how many qualified sport pilot planes are tricycle gear? Looks like many are tail draggers. Will sport
pilots be better at landing? "Gilan" wrote in message ink.net... How many non flying pilots interested in Sport Pilot? Has anyone taken a poll and gathered numbers on people interested in Sport Pilot now that it is official? Have a good day and stay out of the trees! Now that is a great question and one that can be summed up in a few ways,
there are a few trike geared light sporters but most are in deed taildraggers. I will also take a taildragger course. As far as finding planes to qualify in , join the EAA and ask around...you never know when someone will let you rent their plane. Most of the members around me have quite a few sport category planes from Ercoupes and Aeronca's to two seat ultralight types. but as for your question I would say that the experience of taildraggers will make for better landings and even better pilots. I doubt if I will beat Ryan in his quest for building the Ultra Cruiser Plus which is what I will build. Maybe even the mini-coupe as an added bonus if I can find out more about them. many currently built aircraft that fall into the "sport aircraft" category
are tailwheel.. depends on what "new" sport aircraft get built as to how they have nose or tail wheels.. nose wheel assemblies add weight... weight is a "no no" for Light Sport Aircraft.. does not mean their landings will be any better than a nose dragging pilot.. BT (~~~ able to do both plus land on one wheel and fly without mechanical power) "Blueskies" wrote in message m... Another question, how many qualified sport pilot planes are tricycle gear? Well,
Yes I did speak to an FAA ME, several FAA "inspectors" and there is no problem with me a the sport license....commercial flying at 35,000 for 5 hours at a time are out of the question! HAHA Hey I am impressed with one wheeled landings under no power..ya only get one shot at those!!!!hee hee Alot of the sport category planes have trike gear, just seems most of the older types are taildraggers. Find an old Ercoupe, they are easy to fly and have trike gear and you can find them for sale for about 12,000 ..some alittle more of course. I think the best thing is the opportunity that this new class will offer to people. If the CFI's and all grasp it and airports treat it well they could all see a increase in biz and an interest in some old planes that not alot of people want anymore. As they say"The sky is the limit!"
