IIRC, the Piper POH uses a figure of 8 knots speed reduction if (factory equipped) wheel pants are removed. That's for the full-coverage wheel pants found on later model Archers and Warriors (which Jay's modified pants emulate). The early wheel pants covered only the somewhat aerodynamic part of the gear (round wheel) and left all of the pointy bits hanging out in the breeze. Those are good for 1 or 2 knots on a good day. If I put all the speed mods on my 180 how much faster will it really go. I did the K2U flap, aileron, stabilitor and fuselage seals along with the wing root fairing and MetCo tips. All of that gave me another 7 knots at 75%@7,500 ft. It wasn't worth it for the speed, but it was well worth it for the handling improvements. John Galban=====N4BQ (PA28-180) |
