For those that have seen the Masters of Disaster air show this may or

may
not come as a shock, but Jimmy Franklin and Bobby Younkin are no

longer
with
us.

See www.avweb.com for the story.

They will be missed.

Jim

Did anyone notice that on the AirVenture Air Show page today, Franklin's
and Younkin's names have been erased? Gone. Like they didn't exist. The
EAA took the time to do a big write-up about a plane that won't be coming
due to wing corrosion, but nothing about this tragedy. Somehow I expected
more from them.

You must not know how to look. Yesterday the accident story was front and
center on the EAA home page. It is still there today but down a couple of
stories.

I knew Jimmy Franklin and Jim Leroy.
I have met, but can't claim to know Bobby Younkin.
From what I have seen of the videos, Jimmy Franklin pulled up to miss
Jim Leroy (no blame attached here), and collided with Bobby Younkin.

A very sad day - we have lost two of the very best in North America.
My heart goes out to the families - particularly to Jimmy's son who was
announcing the routine when the accident happened.

Moosejaw ain't having much luck lately!

We should all be holding Jimmy's and Bobby's families close in our
hearts tonight.

Tony

Is the video on the web? I don't particularly like watching such videos,
but I'm trying to figure out how three aircraft were involved in a mid-air.
Alternatively, you could describe it for us; i.e. how was LeRoy's plane
damaged?

Thanks,

Hilton

What format is that video in? I just get the pip-up with blanks where the
video should be.

REAL

I found that if you watch one, you then have to refresh the main page before
clicking on the other, but it all works here.

It was Real Video. A little player popped up instead of my more usual Windows
Media Player. I actually found a file a couple of years ago called
REALALT102.EXE on the web that allows me to run Real Audio and video files
without all the spyware. I have a copy if you can't find it anywhere else.

Whatever format it is in, it is buried inside a flash object. I had to
activate flash to see it, and then deactiveate it when done (by renaming
all versions of flash.ocx and swflash.ocx)
