To take it a step further...
Are there any homebuilts that match the performance of a luscombe 8a with a continental A-65 that uses the same engine? I am not sure I know of any (2 seat continental A-65 powered, 95 MPH+ cruise) "John T" wrote in message ... The designer of the Bearhawk, Bob Barows designed a tandem (2 place) version of the bearhawk called the patrol. Still not sport pilot, but he is working on a sport pilot version of the patrol, for 65-100hp. Expects to be finished in about a year. What surprises me is that nobody has plans for a side by side at sport pilot gross. There are a number of nice planes out there, such as the Highlander, but no plans builts! John |

Sorry Rich, those don't qualify...I'm talking high wingers here, with a
design gross of 1320# (Yes, I know one can put any gross weight they want on a homebuilt, but I'd rather have a design that way). The 701 is a nice plane, and builds quickly...but they are slow. I was going to build one of these when I discovered the Bearhawk. |

There are several under the design gross of 1320# such as the Junior IV @ 950#, the Champion V @ 993#, the Emeraude @ 1145# (aerobatic gross) and the Whiskey IV @ 1058#. Even the Beryl at its design aerobatic gross of 1400# isn't that far off. Rich S. |

There are some excellent pictures of retractable CP 1320 Saphirs at http://www.avions-piel.com/ftopic69.html and one of a retractable red & white Super Diamant with a Mooney-style fastback at http://www.avions-piel.com/galerie/t...s.php?album=25. The prettiest airborne picture I have EVER seen of an Emeraude is at http://www.avions-piel.com/galerie/d...album=27&pos=0. Rich S. |
