There's a few flight schools on the airport, so the controllers are used

dealing with students / low time pilots who might not be comfortable at a
Class-B towered airport... Watch out for the intersection of Rwy 35 and

I always use Hobby when I go to Houston, about 6-8 times a year; no sweat.

Pay close attention to Michael's post, especially the part about keeping the
airport diagram handy for taxiing.

I recommend Wilson Air Center (formerly Fletcher) on the south end of the
airport. They always take great care of me and have the rent car waiting
when I taxi up.

What happened to Fletcher? (I took my checkride with Maybelle Fletcher,

Don't know for sure. Bought out by Wilson, apparently. There are still
Grummans parked around there.

Maybelle and Larry are in their 80's.. Pop's health isnt what it
used to be either... it was just time to retire.. There was scuttlebutt
and some serious planning to sell off the FBO and move the flight school
to Clover... but that pretty much just turned into "its time to retire".

Btw.. when you comin back to the states again? I'd loved the pics/video
of Wilson Bar.
