It looks like there's a landing fee as well as a ramp fee. With luck it will
be a ten minute stop. Any recommendations?

Recommendations? Yeah - have your pal meet you on the ramp with the
giftie so you don't have to shut down... matter of fact don't even
stop moving... Oh wait, it's only a two-fiddy landing fee? Never
mind...

Do they all charge the same ramp fee?

Yes unless you buy gas, then they waive it

So one strategy would be to just buy some gas. Even if it's more
expensive than you usually pay, the delta on a few gallons would be lower
than a ramp fee.

JFK and MacArthur are the closest. Are they better to land at than FRG?

Not really. JFK will cost you about $100 in fees and KISP is the same as
KFRG in terms of fees with the added Class Charlie airspace procedures.

What are the added Class Charlie procedures? You need to call from a
little farther out. You need to change from Approach to Tower. You need
to call Clearance Delivery before you leave. And maybe you'll get vectors.

Not that there's any reason to prefer ISP, but avoiding it just because
it's inside class C airspace seems excessive.

I agree with what Marco wrote, but some more detail: Call ahead to both FBOs
and get a name with any quote on ramp fees and such. Both FBOs are clean and
friendly and pricey.

The ramp area in front of the Terminal Building/Fire Station was available
free for use of the resturant, but since 9/11 that's hit or miss. The
terminal doors open from the ramp side, but you'll need Rescue or Security
to get access back to the ramp.

I've found for any quick (30min) turn around, tell ground your going to the
pumps at ECHO area (ask for progressives). The self serve pumps are about 60
feet from a man-gate leading to a small general access parking area (very
obvious when you get there). Have your friend park there and wait for you,
then make your exchange inside the fence and your done.

PS the $2.50 landing fee is not avoidable, goes to the the NYSDOT (not the
FBOs), and will be mailed to the registered owner if not paid thru the FBO.

Thanks everyone for the information. I don't mind paying a fee, but if I
don't have to, I prefer not to.

Airnav says the ramp fee is not waived with a fuel purchase. I guess I'll
call and find out for sure.

I find Charlie airports extremely easy to fly in and out of, aside from
fees, as I'm typically vectored right to a base or final leg. Most of
the time, they even control my descent to pattern altitude.

Have a taxi diagram ready with the parking area marked, and the sheet
rotated to orient with the runway you arrive on. Sometimes, the hardest
part of a big airport in a spam can is taxiing.

Mike offered a good suggestion about the Echo ramp. If you do choose to go
there, there's and area on the south side of the pumps (to the left when
facing it on the other side of the Port-a-potties) that you can park the
plane. It's in front of the water spouts and we use it to wash our planes.
You can easily park there for a short turnaround.

I did not advocate that he avoid ISP solely on the procedures. I simply
outlined the differences. I agree, the differences are minimal but they are
there. Actually, I kind of like the extra oversight and corresponding
heads-up from ATC farther out than the pattern.

Steve,

Unless you need to buy fuel at an exorbitant fee, DO NOT go to the FBO's
but rather to the public ramp that is near the tower.

In that case, you will be subject to the $2.50 landing fee, but there will
be no ramp fee.

There is a time limit for staying on the public ramp, but the time limit,
when I last checked a few months ago, was hours -- can't recall how many,
but it was more than enough for me to meet my Mom and have lunch at the
local restaurant.

I'm sure the landing fees at JFK would be very reasonable. G

Listen to this before going to JFK:

That was funny.

It was but I don't recommend giving the link to any nervous airline pax
