After all, the original poster has chosen as his Nom de Usenet the name of Steve Martin's clueless title character in "The Jerk". Guy i wasnt trying to be a smartass. i honestly didnt know. Fair enough, and my apology. Still, that handle does invite suspicion. Or perhaps it's just that I have grown overly cautious, having dealt with far too many trolls here in the past. Guy |

I rented The Great Santini the other night and was surprised to find out that the Marines had fighter pilots. I thought the only USAF and Navy had the fighter pilots. Well........., on a good night at the O Club at Pax, if we were sure no Marines or Air Force types were present at the bar, (and if we had enough to drink, even with some of them present :-).......this opinion just MIGHT have come up once in a while!!! :-))) Seriously through, some of the finest fighter pilots I've known in my somewhat dubious career were Air Force and Marine drivers. The Marines most certainly do have fighter pilots, and some damn good ones at that!! Dudley, I think there's a more than decent chance that you've being trolled. After all, the original poster has chosen as his Nom de Usenet the name of Steve Martin's clueless title character in "The Jerk". Saw that movie; actually saw both of them. I really enjoy Steve Martin's work. He's a "very..... funny guy" :-) Apparently he has other talents too. Just last week I was astounded to find out that he's one of the country's premier 5 string banjo players. I heard him play on the radio without knowing who was playing, and I swear I thought it was Earl Scruggs. Man, THAT was Bluegrass!!! :-) Yeah, he's an amazing banjo player for someone who describes it as a "hobby". I dare say he could go pro without much difficulty. -Marc I think when I heard him, he was actually jamming with Scruggs. DH |

Wow, are you going to catch it over this one :-) (assuming that this is not a troll). The USMC has had "fighter pilots" since the 1930's and some of the very best "fighter pilots" at that. They currently fly the F/A-18 and the AV-8. Al Minyard |

I once heard him being interviewed (maybe by Terry Gross on "Fresh Air"). He said that the reason he decided not to be a pro with the banjo but decided on a career change into comedy, was that he noticed that one thing you never heard over the P.A. system in a club was "Will the banjo player please go out to the parking lot? You've left the lights on in your Mercedes" ;-) Guy |

And aside from John Bolt, who scored 6 kills flying F-86s in Korea to add to his six while in the Black Sheep, there was that other marine flying F-86s as an exchange pilot with the 51st FIW, who's credited with three MiG kills in 27 missions. Some guy named John H. Glenn, whose subsequent career was pretty run of the mill :^). Guy |

NOAA or NCA or something like that. Can't really recall. ;-) -- http://www.delversdungeon.dragonsfoot.org Remove the X's in my email address to respond.
