![]() So it would still be the X-35, right? No, wrong. It is not one of the X-35 prototypes. It is a full scale model of the eventual F-35. I've seen one of the F-35 mock-ups a few years ago. It looked rather smart and quite convincing from a distance. Regards, Ralph Savelsberg (miso) wrote in message . com... Is the F-35 really the X-35? Anyone seen any pictures of the helmet display (hardware and displays) that is going to be used in place of a more conventional HUD? Is is related to the HMS that is being added to the F-15 (which has quite a bit of symbology displayed compared to a simple "point the seeker" HMS)? Kirk |

Or in the words of Monty Python " It's only a model". While it is very close to what the F-35 lines are at this time, there have been some changes from when it was finished; May of this year. There is another full-scale mock-up that Lockheed Martin Aero has been showing for several years, but this one is more up to date. Regards Jim Barr |

What's up with the display in this mock-up. Is it for show, or training purposes?

![]() miso wrote: What's up with the display in this mock-up. Is it for show, or training purposes? snip You mean the one on: http://www.lazygranch.com/images/air...w2003/x351.jpg It depends on what the purpose of the mock-up is. I would tend to think that it is primarily for show/ demonstration to potential users/customers. Lockheed-Martin could of course show them computer generated pictures of what the cockpit and displays will eventually look like, but with a mock-up they can actually have them sitting in the cockpit and admire the view/the look and feel. It's also useful for getting some feed-back from users/customers. Regards, Ralph Savelsberg |

Regards, Ralph Savelsberg Ralph is right, the purpose of the mock-up is to let potential users/customers see the actual size of the aircraft, and get in and get the "feel" of the cockpit, to see the layout that LM is going with. While it is not "dead on" it is very close to what is being proposed. It is used at air shows to show the general public what it will look like, and its size compared to other aircraft on the static line, also to "show the flag" so to speak, for what their governments have or are thinking about signing up for.
