It was Spring that I flew down to Corpus to see my kid.
We took a ride onto Mustang, looking near the short strip there, but we
didn't see your hotel jump out at us.
But that was a week or a few before you actually moved in. I hope you
have a sign up these days?

Yup, we're further into town, on the same road as the airport. We're
about 2 miles from the airport.

Just look for the big "Harbor Inn" sign! ;-)

Good to hear from you!
Any more tornado stories to share?

Tornadoes? Nope. No more violent weather down here at all, unlike
what we got seemingly every day in Iowa.

Even when we get torrential tropical storms here, it's just hard
(REALLY hard -- like 12" in 24 hours), solid rain. Very little wind,
and no lightning/thunder at all.

It's funny -- everyone warned us about the weather down here in the
Gulf, but I'm here to tell you that Iowa gets pummeled with weather
exponentially worse than we do on Mustang Island.

Until the "Big One" hits, of course. :-)

Hi, I very rarely posted here, just got back on the newsgroups. Been off
of them for quite a while. Do you still have your hotel?

Yep. The one in Iowa City is for sale, if you'd like to run a cool,
aviation themed inn! See it he www.AlexisParkInn.com.

That one took 8 years to build. Now, we have bought another motel on
Mustang Island, in Port Aransas, TX. We're converting it to the
aviation theme, too. See www.HarborInnPortA.com

Hi Jay,

well, the design is the same awful design as it is on the other
hotel-site; sorry. :-)

but: "bonne chance!" for your business. It must be tough in the tourism
industry these days.

Are there any effects at your place in TX from the oil leak?

Harbor Inn's website. WTF??? I learned a whole new program to
build that new website! What's wrong with it?

Business. Yeah, it's been a terrible couple of years for the hotel
industry. The worst, ever, so they say. That's why we bought when we
did -- prices are also at an all-time low. It's been a tough row to
hoe, but I have faith that things will rebound...someday.

Oil? Here? Nah. That blowout happened 500 miles NE of us, and the
currents in the Gulf are clockwise, so everything went away from us.
Thankfully!

First, good to see you back here.

But on the website, from what I see at the moment, well it just feels
very "Geocities", and it is designed such that you need a PC screen to be
comfortable. Many people who find themselves needing a motel some night
will be using some kind of mobile device, Android, iPhone etc. with AT&T's
dismally slow 3G service. They may end up not trying to find a given
motel if it takes too long for the site to load due to the heavy graphics
content. Also some of the text spills off the blue background if the
browser size isn't exactly right (and this means any mobile browser).
