Day 1, All major airframe, cable and Engine inspections complete.
Reported On That In Post #1 Day 2, Fixed Discrepancies on Day 1 We Did an In-depth Control System's Inspection, After Resetting Trim Indicator that was way off. Very In-Depth Fuel System Inspection, and reinstalled all inspection plates and wheel pants. We found that the gascolator was corroded and was leaking from the shaft. We removed gascolator upon inspection we found an O-Ring to be brittle and cracked with pieces missing. Upon removal of the O-Ring it came out in pieces and they would crumble in you hand. I chouse to repair the gascolator myself I took it home and after 2 hours of scrubbing with no progress on the corrosion on the gascolator's exterior I decided it needed a acid bath. After 20 min of soaking I pulled it from its bath neutralized the acid. I began the cleaning process and getting it ready for dye check for cracks. I did my dye check no crack found. I dipped it in an acid bath for another 5 min for a before final cleaning. On to the parts for measurements. Pull out my handy dandy dial caliber and measure the plunger shaft where the O-Ring is at the shaft is not worn many half a thousandth of an inch at the O-Ring where point. The next part is the main body of the gascolator the hole the shaft goes in to I do an inspection looks good. The 2 washers and spring for the plunger shaft no unusual where is found! Parts Look Good Went to the Local FBO they have all 3 O-Rings and the gasket that goes between the screen and the main body cost about $20.00 purchased a bunch of extra O-Rings I Used Some DC4 for O-Ring Lube Installed the shaft O-Ring in gascolator body with the proper O-Ring install tool was a nice snug fit. I installed a new fuel screen gasket installed fuel screen. I lubed the Plunger shaft with DC4 and slowly installed the plunger carefully so I would not damage the new O-Ring. I Install the threaded tube for the gascolator that also holds the fuel screen down test action works great. I Lube and install new fuel bowl O-Ring install fuel bowl. I installed fuel bowl drain hole O-Ring Install retainer washer and nut now time for a leek test. To test I used a regulated compressed air @ 12psi don't think that gravity fuel pressure is over that. I capped the Primer line and output line installed an air fitting on the inlet side applied air no leaks. Day 3, We return for the hangar today 10-26-04 we over look all the paper work that need's to be done says gascolator look's like a new one talked about what I did to it said was a bit over done he inspected my work every thing was great and off to the install we go. Install and operation test go as planned. Time to put the cowl on you know it is really nice and easy with new cowl mounts things just work great. We pull it out of the hanger for the Run Up, Everything seems to function properly smooth. To my surprise the throttle response was a lot better must have been that set of 8 new plugs. We park the airplane after that 20 min Run Up look for leaks none found. We go in the hanger and finalize all log book entries annual complete we exchange money for logs, shake hands and discuss our long term business relationship. I now have a better understanding of 7676U Problem points and places that need that little extra attention. I think that they could have used a dust boot on the gascolator to protect the plunger shaft O-ring from dust and dirt just my 2 cents on that note. Total A&P IA bill was $320.00 Total For Parts "Unknown" have not added it up but under $300.00 Knowledge recived from this annual priceless I would have been more than happy to pay triple that amount. Logbook Entry 10/26/04 Tach Time 4438.2 Total Time 4438.2 TSMOH 868.0 Complied with annual inspection IAW FAR 43 Appendix D and Cessna Service Manual. Compressions were as follows: #1 78/80, #2 79/80, #3 78/80, #4 77/80. Replaced all 8 spark plugs with new. Replace 4 cowl shock mounts with new. Replaced gascolator drain tube and replaced all seals in gascolator. Replaced both fuel cap gaskets. Adjusted elevator trim indicator. Installed minor sheetmetal repair to leading edge of LH stabilizer. Inspected and lubricated all controls. Serviced Battery. C/W AD 80-11-04 by inspecting Fin attach nutplates, next due at 4538.2. C/W AD 87-20-03 R2 by inspecting seat tracks, next due at next annual. ELT battery due replacement 10-2005. I certify that this aircraft has been inspected in accordance with an annual inspection and was determined to be in an airworthy condition. |
