A few years back before I lost my 'little' fortune in the stock
markets, my brother-in-law and I started a dotcom company,
AfterSchoolJobs.com. We went to Thailand on an unlated trip and had
1,000.00 Polo shirts made up with our logo on the breast. The shirts
cost us all of $3.27/ a piece. Customs wanted something in the
neighborhood of $7,00/piece as tarrif/tax. We let them keep them.

We broke even on the venture. Looking back, if we had started just a
year earlier than we did, we'd be as big as Hotjobs.com or maybe even
Monster.com (dreaming again). We actually got alot of advertisers, but
in the downtrend of bubble burst, we couldn't get venture capitalists.

Somewhere out there there's over nine hundred Polos with
AfterSchoolJobs.com on them.

It took me some research, but I almost had your quoted price on a 100 Ts
production. Produced in Europe, so I had no hassle with customs or import
taxes. You sure can find the same or better deals in the US.

You can create your own custom shirt here http://www.zazzle.com/ with no
setup charge or minimum. I designed a shirt for my grandson to wear after
his new baby brother arrived. Had a picture of a celestial galaxy cribbed
from the Hubble site and the text "I used to be the Center of the Universe,
but now I'm just the Big Brother" on it. Was reasonably priced, and pretty
quick. Design something for your FBO.

You can have your own online T-shirt shop in about 3 minutes.

http://www.cafepress.com

All they need is your logo, they'll do the rest.

It sounds like a profitable idea to me.

The Big Bear airport in California (Elevation: 6,748 ft) has several
tee shirts in various colors and sizes in their glass counter where
you pay your landing fee. The shirt has some reference to the fact
that their airport is a "mile high" and the name of the airport. It's
a good souvenir, reasonably priced, and good quality.

Give my friend Jerry Grossberg a call to discuss product development:
719 487 0210 or 719-487-8376. Tell him I sent you, and he'll give you
a deal.

There are lots of ideas he

Yep. I buy 'em when I see 'em. On a side note: I rented a plane in Las
Vegas during our February visit the last couple years. The first year I
looked for a T-shirt or hat for a souvenir-nope. Last year the had some
polo shirts (too espensive) or a hat (proced right) with their logo on
it. One important note: Make sure your FBO logo says where you are.
This FBO at North Las Vegas had nothing in their logo that said where
they were.

Mary had this brainstorm the other day; I present it here for your
opinion...

Every Harley dealer in America seems to have their own custom-designed
T-shirt. Usually it's got the Harley-Davidson logo, combined with the local
dealer's name, and some recognizable symbol. Our local Harley shop has the
old State Capitol on his (the most historic and recognizable symbol of Iowa
City), for example.

Many (most?) Harley owners seem to collect these shirts. Wherever they
visit, (and we've had Harley rider guests who have done this), they make a
bee-line to the local dealer, to buy their shirt. It's kind of a neat
tradition.

Why not do something similar at airports? If each FBO had a snazzy T-shirt
that was specific and unique to *their* FBO, and their location, would you
not buy it? I know I would.

Mary has often remarked about how cold and stand-off-ish so many FBOs are
(with some major exceptions, of course), and how it would be great to be
able to purchase souvenirs from local airports along our many cross-country
flights. This T-shirt idea would be slick, because (a) it would fill a
perceived need, (b) it wouldn't represent much of an investment from always
cash-strapped FBOs, and (c) there are tens of thousands of airports, all
over the country.

Anyone out there own a T-shirt shop? Could not, say, the Wizard of Draws
be employed creating unique designs for each airport?

Or:
"I had great sex
in the hot-tub
in the Blackbird-Suite
at the Alexis Park Inn
I did _come_ close to IOW.
But don't tell my wife!"

I had about 100 T's produced for my business. 2 color print, good quality,
for about $4 each. The polo would be a bit more expensive.
