Until the advent of unleaded fuels, the greatest environmental exposure to lead in developed nations was the lead in fuel. In vivo lead levels have declined considerably since unleaded fuels became widespread, but aviation fuels for piston engines still contain lead, so it's entirely plausible that aviators are still being exposed to lead regularly via this route. |
