Most GPSes have an NMEA RS232 output; all mine do.

Wire GPS_Data_Out to Pin 2 of your computer Serial Port.
Wire GPS_Ground to Pin 5 " " " " "

Fire up HyperTerm, establish a "connection" to the
appropriate Com port using 4800,N,8,1 (it might be
9600,N,8,1?).

Everything the GPS sends will print on the screen.
You can capture it in a file, if you want.

Google for "NMEA sentences" if you want more info
about what is printed.
